Being a Teenager is tough, but for us African girls growing up in the UK, it can be even harder. Dual heritage can be both a gift and a struggle.

Life is just plain confusing sometimes.

Like when you experience one culture at home and another at school. It’s not unusual to feel frustrated, confused or just wanting to shut it all out. Truth is, we all need a space to figure some of this weirdness out.

At Blossom we understand us girls need a big sister or an aunty every so often. We need someone to help us understand changes, differences, to cheer us on, or just to give us a friendly hug and say it’s going to be alright. We need to be supported and loved; but mostly we just need someone who really understands us.

That’s why we founded Blossom.

GROUP WORKSHOPS

There are several ways we provide support and services for our girls. We host regular workshops for two groups; Girls aged 10-14 and young women aged 15-20.

Our workshops are aimed at improving self-esteem and self-confidence, dealing with emotional issues, improving our health & well-begin and developing skills for life.

1 ON 1 MENTORING

We provide 1-2-1 mentorship that allows our girls to explore their purpose and support those struggling with behavioural issues and address these issues using practical skills.

As every girl is unique, we partner with parents to understand the issues their teenagers face and provide a tailor-made service to each girl. Our mentors are DBS cleared and our environment is a safe space for teenagers to learn and grow whilst having fun.

In addition to our regular mentoring, we offer the specialist one on one services below:

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

we are also trained and qualified to offer DBT therapy where we work with girls who experience intense emotional issues and a number of other mental health issues.

Bereavement & Loss Support

Most teens are dependent on the adults in their life, and a death to the adult in their life can cause anxiety, confusion, depression and so much. We are just a call away, even if all you want to say is ‘Why me’ . Don’t suffer in silence, please reach out, our trained staff are here to offer their support.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

We regularly give talks and presentations on issues affecting African teenage girls in the UK today.

Let us know if you would like to partner with us on a project or for an event. We have a team of trained professionals who specialise in different areas of mental health.

Blossom Foundation has been a blessing to my daughter because of the vast valuable activities regularly organised by the organiser and her team.

Self-care, confidence, bullying, enterprise, mentorship, to mention a few, are some of the activities organised. My daughter has blossomed so much that her younger sister was looking  forward to joining her and has finally joined her now she is old enough. Thank you so much Ruth and to your team and volunteers for the positive impact you have on our children, God bless you all.

Blossom foundation has really transformed my daughter. She is more confident and interactive now.

Before, she used to be very shy, can’t express herself or any issues at home or at school. Now she is bold to speak up and ask questions, makes new friends easily and manage her physical and emotions wellbeing. I am so happy with the way Blossom Foundation supports the young girls. I want to use this opportunity to thank the mentors for the 1:1 sections, it really helped a lot.

As a Mum, I can testify that my daughter has been tremendously supported through Blossom. Her self-confidence has improved and she is now able to help other young girls.

Blossom isn’t only concerned about the girls, they also care about the parents too. Lots of workshops and events are being organised for parents to support them in whatever challenges they encounter in raising their girls. Blossom provides excellent information and support system for both girls and their parents. Through Blossom, minority ethnic groups girls who are disadvantaged, have been adequately supported to boost their mental wellbeing, positive behaviour, good self-esteem and thereby making them better girls in the community.

Thanks to Blossom foundation for the mother and daughter’s Intervention where we had the group coaching and DBT sessions.

The group coaching helped me to know and understand my teenage daughter better and it helped my daughter to understand things from my own point of view as well. Blossom foundation is  a great organisation for the BME Girls.

Doing group therapy with my mum enabled me to open up and share things with her. I’m now able to see her side of things and understand why she may make certain Decisions.

I also had a few DBT sessions on my own which allowed me to talk about things that depressed me and learnt practical ways to deal with them. Now I find confidence in myself and am able to ask for help in situations, I also  started journaling my thoughts as a hobby and to keep myself organised. It has been a really good experience and exposed me to right things. Thank you so much Blossom Foundation for always supporting me.

New Year, New…………

New Year, New…………

It’s 2021 we made it!! We can all agree that 2020 was a year that caught us off guard and had our lives flipped upside down. We watched helplessly as the crusade of numbers surged across our screens and every conversation somehow found its way to be about the dreaded COVID-19. We have all been impacted in one way or the other big and small, the perfect example of “we’re all in the same storm but different boats” and now with less than a week into the new year we have been hit with another LOCK DOWN.

Say No!

Say No!

In July, we focused on ABUSE. Today, I will shed some light on sexual abuse (sometimes referred to as sexual assault). I will share an experience with you, and I believe it will help you understand what sexual abuse is, types of sexual abuse and its effects and for survivors how it could affect big decisions in your life if you don’t deal with it.
